Travel Journal, Bermuda. Summer 2007, Aug-Sept 2007.
Here’s a look at one of the more depressing elements of the seasons: they come to an end, and rather abruptly. In this case on our last-gasp summer 2007 vacation in Bermuda – our summer home – the end of summer was greeted by rain for three straight days last week. A nice goodbye to the end of the season, followed by sunshine on the day of our departure from the island. Was that telling or what?

No matter where we are, global financial markets remain open 24 hours a day/7 days a week, so the blackberry and Steven remain on-call, even on vacation. Here is Steven sitting on the couch in North Rock cottage assumably taking a break, yet the blackberry browsing and emails still keep coming. Is there no end? 30Aug07
Are you sure we can have lunch out today? Yes, dear. Clients will always be calling. Remember, I’m on-call 24/7; I’m reachable!
There’s George, one of the valets of Cambridge Beaches rolling up rain gear from the previous night’s storm at the turnaround. 30Aug07
Clouds loom over the Atlantic for what is yet to come: more thunder storms. Aug07
Are you sure you don’t want to take a dip tonight? It’s actually NOT raining (for the moment). Just a few hours later however, the thunder and lightning return followed by a heavy down pour. Oh well. Should’ve taken that night swim after all. Aug07
Northwestern view of North Rock cottage’s pool overlooking the Atlantic below with yet another pending storm. Even the tiles from today’s rain haven’t dried while another shower makes its way toward us.
Overlooking the Cambridge Beaches croquet lawn, the Ocean Spa building is protected by the Union Jack, Bermudian, Irish and Canadian flags which share space w/our stars and stripes.
There he is again…on the Blackberry! Can’t blame him when global markets continue to “teeter” up and down, a predictable consequence of trying to vacation this summer. Just impossible to get away from it ALL. Aug07
Maggie waiting for her ride into the Royal Navy dockyard. We’re not brave enough to ride the scooters in Sandy’s Parish, so we await our taxi under the shade tree at the roundabout at Cambridge Beaches. Aug07
Do we really want to do adventures today? It’s raining again. Besides, haven’t we already done everything on this island? Bermuda’s Treasures as they stand in their ubiquitous white boxes throughout the island. Here they are at the Royal Navy Dockyard in Somerset.
In front of St. Peter’s – oldest consistently run Presbyterian church in this hemisphere – as they boast on their entry way plaque since 1640, while I pose for Steven.
Taken from the interior entry of St. Peter’s, here is Steven after a brief walkaround and to catch a breeze from the high humidity from within. Sept07
