So I’m part of the Americana family that has visited the District of Columbia far too many times to count, starting with my father’s passion and fascination for America’s history and the surrounding Capitol and all it represents. I believe I was just 3 yrs. old when he decided that visiting the nation’s capital would become an annual event, until our thirst for the Smithsonian, Georgetown and historic relevance became more of an “annoyance” trip given the frequency of our visits. Back then, we didn’t take flights nor did we stay in fancy hotels in town, it was load-em-up in the family car and drive, for hours and stay not at a B&B or hotel, but the Holiday Inn. Oh, the ’70’s were such an innocent time.
I’ll try to document through old photo albums some of our dozen or more family trips to Dad’s favorite, but it will require some time given no recent photos have been taken of D.C. at least not for work-related visits or other meetings in town.
