Travel Journal: Summer 2007 End

Here’s a look at one of the more depressing elements of the seasons: they come to an end, and rather abruptly. In this case on our last-gasp summer 2007 vacation in Bermuda – our summer home – the end of summer was greeted by rain for three straight days last week. A nice goodbye to the end of the season, followed by sunshine on the day of our departure from the island. Was that telling or what?

No matter where we are, global financial markets remain open 24 hours a day/7 days a week, so the blackberry and Steven remain on-call, even on vacation. Here is Steven sitting on the couch in North Rock cottage assumably taking a break, yet the blackberry browsing and emails still keep coming. Is there no end? 30Aug07

Are you sure we can have lunch out today? Yes, dear. Clients will always be calling. Remember, I’m on-call 24/7; I’m reachable!

Are you sure you don’t want to take a dip tonight? It’s actually NOT raining (for the moment). Just a few hours later however, the thunder and lightning return followed by a heavy down pour. Oh well. Should’ve taken that night swim after all. Aug07

There he is again…on the Blackberry! Can’t blame him when global markets continue to “teeter” up and down, a predictable consequence of trying to vacation this summer. Just impossible to get away from it ALL. Aug07

Do we really want to do adventures today? It’s raining again. Besides, haven’t we already done everything on this island? Bermuda’s Treasures as they stand in their ubiquitous white boxes throughout the island. Here they are at the Royal Navy Dockyard in Somerset.
